Gaston College defends Region 10 baseball title starting on May 3 in Lexington, S.C.

Gaston College begins its Region 10 baseball title defense next Friday, May 3 when the four-day Region 10 tournament begins at Lexington, S.C., County Stadium.

The Rhinos, ranked No. 2 in the National Junior College Athletic Association poll, are the No. 2 seed in the tournament.

Gaston College will take a 49-6 overall record and 20-4 league mark into the event when it faces No. 7 seed USC Salkehatchie (4-43, 2-22) in at 4:30 p.m. on May 3.

Regular season champion Florence-Darlington Tech (46-9, 21-3), ranked No. 3 nationally, gets a first-round bye.

Other May 3 opening round pairings have No. 4 seed USC Lancaster (28-25, 9-15) facing No. 5 seed USC Sumter (23-27, 9-15) at 10 a.m., No. 3 seed Spartanburg Methodist (38-14, 15-9) facing No. 6 USC Union (22-23, 8-16) at 1 p.m. and Florence-Darlington Tech facing the winner of the 10 a.m. game at 7:30 p.m.

Gaston College won the 2023 Region 10 title in its first-ever postseason baseball games last season as part of its path to a historic NJCAA World Series appearance.

This season, only the Region 10 tournament winner advances to the East district tournament held May 10-11. The East district tournament champion then advances to the 10-team World Series hosted May 25-June 1 in Grand Junction, Col.
