Gaston College sets 2024 fall schedule with exhibitions against NCAA Division I competition and other top programs
Gaston College baseball coach Shohn Doty and the Rhinos are set to play a 10-date fall schedule that includes several multiple-exhibition showcase events at NCAA Division I and II schools and a home showcase event against one of the 10 National Junior College World Series teams.
The Rhinos are coming off a 51-8 season in which Gaston College set school history for most wins, best winning percentage and a first-ever No. 1 national ranking; Gaston College was No. 1 for five weeks in the Dream Big Athletics poll, for four weeks in the National Junior College Athletic Association poll, for two weeks in the 2-Year Baseball poll and for one week in the Perfect Game poll.
The fall slate begins on Sept. 14 at the Lenoir-Rhyne University Showcase.
After visiting that NCAA Division II site, the Rhinos play NCAA Division I Showcases at Campbell University, Winthrop University and USC Upstate in addition to exhibition games against NCAA Division I schools High Point University and Gardner-Webb University.
Gaston College also will hold home exhibition games at Gastonia's Sims Legion Park against Legion College Academy of Rock Hill, S.C., Pro 5 Academy of Holly Springs, the Rhino Showcase against Georgia Highlands College and Roane State, Tenn., Community College and the Ontario Blue Jays and will also have an intrasquad Rhino Showcase. Georgia Highlands finished third in the 2024 NJCAA World Series in Grand Junction, Col., and Roane State is a perennial power in Region 7.
