Gaston College basketball looks to the future after record-setting 2024-25 season

After finishing with the third-most wins and third-best winning percentage in school history, Gaston College's basketball team enters the offseason with high hopes for the upcoming 2025-26 season.

"It starts now," Rhinos head coach Benny Moss said of the offseason. "There is no off time. We've got to get some kids on campus to visit. We've been recruiting some kids and we want to take the next step."

Gaston College finished the 2024-25 season with a 22-8 overall record that included 8-6 in Region 10 Division I play and a record-tying 17-game winning streak earlier in the season.

Three sophomores - guards Jordan Brown, Tyheim Love and Judah Ravenell - led the way as each made the All-Region 10 team and each is expected to continue their college careers at four-year schools; Brown committed to UNC Greensboro last week while Love and Ravenell are still being recruited by NCAA Division I and Division II schools.

"Those three guys set the tone, set a standard and created a culture for the program," Moss said. "Now we've got to get these freshman to come back and the new guys we bring in to understand the culture we've created here and be better next year down the stretch."

Brown led the team in scoring (13.7 average) and assists (4.4) while Ravenell led in rebounding (8.6) and he and Love were second in scoring (13.2).

Freshman eligible to return included five players with starting experience in Spencer Breeden (30 starts), Jozohn Price (19), E.J. Joyner (11), Kyhree McAlister (11) and Ryan Evans (4).

Joyner is the top returnee in scoring (11.2 average) and assists (3.5) and Evans (4.7) and Price (4.6) the top rebounders.

Other expected returnees are 2024-25 backups Landon Sprouse, Ben Stevens and J.R. Watson and 2024-25 redshirt players D.J. Banks-West, Kush Carter, Trimell Dunlap and Michael Reaves.

"We lost our front line to some injuries this year so we've got to develop some more depth on the front line," Moss said. "We've also got to get some guards because we lose Jordan and Ty in the backcourt."

The 22-8 finish is third all-time in wins behind the 29-4 team in 1970 and 24-12 team in 1971 and the .733 winning percentage trails only the 1967 team's .889 (16-2 record) and the 1970 team's .878.
